Andrew Jensen

Andrew Jensen was born and raised in Stockton, California.  From an early age he expressed an inclination to learn the art of music.  His early musical training included everything from choirs, orchestras, and fiddling to a cappella quartets and his show playing Uncle Sam performing a musical history of the American flag.

“From the age of five I would make such exclamations as, ‘I want to sing up front, just like that woman with the microphone!’  I did just that on hundreds of occasions before finishing high school.  It brought me into many rewarding relationships, honed my skills, and contributed to a childhood in which boredom was scarce.  My parents guided me in love with a Christ-like wisdom beyond comprehension.  There was a nurturing stability in my family unfathomable to many of my friends.   Stardom was one click away.  While grateful to my teachers, I was certain that their occupation was not to be mine, unless I failed in my true desire.”

“In high school, there were two men who changed my orientation toward becoming a teacher.  Dr. Joe Miller would come to his choirs so prepared that he knew exactly how to bring a section, or a single voice to new heights of expression, and in a manner that fit whatever music was being sung.  Mr. Steve Weikle, my high school choir director, showed me day-in and day-out a love for the choral art and for the relationships that can be fostered in a community where learning leads to the creation of something beautiful for all to hear.”

“There have been many who have had a hand in molding my affections to delight in the study and teaching of music and language.  There have also been those who have shaped my spiritual character and brought me into closer fellowship with my Savior.  These especially include my parents, Douglas and Margaret Jensen, as well as pastors Jim Pluimer, Pete Morehead, and J. Peter Vosteen, and Benji Swinburnson.”

From 1999-2000 Mr. Jensen studied music at Delta College in Stockton, California.  Influential professors include Dr. Scott Bowen and Mr. Max Simoncic.  From 2000-2003, he studied at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California where he earned a B.A. in Music with an emphasis in education.  Influential professors include Mrs. Brenda Reinebach, Mr. Marvin McKissick, Dr. Rod Cathey, Mrs. Michelle Jensen, Mr. John Sutton, and Dr. Carole Lambert.  From 2004-2006 he taught music literacy and directed grammar choirs at Providence Classical Christian School in Lynnwood, Washington.  He has been teaching Latin grammar, humane letters, and mathematics, as well as leading the choirs at New Albion, since 2006.  Andrew is a member of the Lynnwood Orthodox Presbyterian Church.
