National Latin Exam

Every year since our inception, students at New Albion Academy have taken the National Latin Exam.

What is the National Latin Exam?
First given in 1977, the National Latin Exam (NLE) is a test offered every year to Latin students in each of the 50 United States, as well as several other countries throughout the world.  It is sponsored jointly by the American Classical League and the National Junior Classical League.  At various levels, students are tested in grammar, comprehension, mythology, Roman life, and Roman history.  They are also questioned on specific Latin passages of prose and poetry, depending on the test level.

What are its benefits?
Having had her Latin students participate for many years, Mrs. Anderson had an easy time persuading her fellow faculty members of its value to young scholars. It provides opportunities for our students to pursue specific academic achievement in a Liberal Art; it provides camaraderie in our student body, a sense of community and competition with the 135,000 other participants throughout the world, and a helpful excitement during preparation that hones the students' desire and ability to be observant and precise.  In short, it is one activity that provides the opportunity for the kind of development and achievement that will aid the student in life.  These are but a few of its benefits.

The National Latin Exam affords NAA the opportunity to evaluate the results of our program with other programs worldwide.  Students who achieve at a certain level become eligible for awards and future college scholarships awarded by the National Latin Exam organization.

What are the results for the students at New Albion?
We await our most recent results and will publish them as soon as we have them.
