Boot Camp: Organization & Orderliness

Organization/orderliness the art of arranging or disposing one’s person, thoughts, appearance, speech, writing, actions, and material possessions in a manner that is well suited to understanding, application of tasks, overall efficiency, aptness to the situation, and respect toward others.

Organizing Junk Drawers… And Your Thoughts

What if you were given a drawer full of junk?  What if many of the items seemed to have no relationship whatsoever?  What if many of the items were unfamiliar to you?  What if you were then asked to invent categories that would allow each item to be organized into its place?  That is what New Albion students were asked to do as an exercise in organization and orderliness.  The disposition of a student to strive for order out of seeming chaos and confusion is the disposition of a student who desires to make sense of things, to be observant, and to see relationships.

Organization and orderliness, the students were taught, is not simply the practice of tidying up your room or organizing your papers.  It is also about ordering your thoughts and your person in general.
