Boot Camp: Precision

Precision is the art of achieving accuracy with exactness.  The cultivated precise student desires to honor that which is true, good and beautiful by understanding, communicating, or making that which is clear, accurate, and of high, careful, quality.

Care With Each Step

Throughout precision day, students undertook many tasks on body and mind, designed to point out their need for meticulous accuracy.  One such requirement throughout the day is seen above.  A squiggling line of blue masking tape was made to be the EXACT path that each student must take when walking in the long hallway.  Every time a student needed to go to any classroom, the commons, or even the restroom, he was to walk this line.  Every turn point in the line was marked with “L” or “R”, denoting which foot must touch that point.  If a student stepped off the line or misplaced his foot, he was to return to the start.  It was slow-going at first, especially with no passing allowed.  But, eventually, the students got the hang of it.  They could then go…a bit faster, by the afternoon.  This simple experience of taking great care with each step has been a common, memorable example to NAA students of precision.
